Have you seen ‘The Way‘? Directed by Emelio Estevez and starring his father Ramon Gerard Estevez, aka Martin Sheen. There must be something special about a movie that makes a mega star actor put his REAL name on the credits. Well, the movie is special, indeed, and if you haven’t seen it, drop everything. Now. And go watch it. It is one of my top 5 movies ever for the rest of time! (and, can I tell you… I’m so proud of my crush on Emelio Estevez when he was in The Breakfast Club. I mean, look how the guy’s turned out! I had good taste and didn’t even know it!)

On Monday I posted about how God whacked me a-top the head with his Word in the Gospel passage. Maybe you can relate?

My sweet friend Jenna posted a brave and helpful post this morning (one of the benefits of being lazy and not getting your 7 Quick Takes out on time is you have time to read others before you post!). Jenna shares about her struggles with panic attacks and anxiety. Have you ever struggled with something like that before? It’s hard, isn’t it? Go on over to Call Her Happy and join the conversation!

Isn’t Jenna’s site cute? Yeah, I made that. I did good there, I’ll admit! I just finished this design for Bright Maidens: A Young Catholic Commentary. I think it turned out really nicely, don’t you? You should follow these ladies, too. They’re, intelligent, witty and with-it. I hope my daughters are as awesome as they are when they are older! You can also follow Bright Maidens on Facebook here.

I posted over at Austin Catholic New Media about my favorite reflective movies. I have some good suggestions over there, but there are even more great suggestions by readers in comments. Love it!

Found a new way to run the house – if you do something you’re not supposed to do, guess what? You get to write an essay!! Here’s my first victory. Is it bad that I laughed out loud? :)

Did you know that I lead a Catholic Bookclub? Yes. Bookish Catholics. It’s a pure joy for me. Right now, we’re finishing up reading ‘Persuasion’ by Jane Austen and will begin ‘Never Give Up: My Life and God’s Mercy’ by John Janaro next week. Maybe you’d like to read along with us? We have a blog and meet locally once a month. I’ll be offering a giveaway of an autographed copy soon!! You can learn more about the author, John Janaro, over at his blog. He has an amazing story, and a brave witness to share. I hope that you get a chance to read his book.

Okay, I love the essay idea! What a great way to slow kids down long enough for true reflection!
I put “the way” in our Netflix que. Hoping Bruce and I get to watch it one night this Lenny. LOVE the essay! I pray my boys are as insightful of their actions at 10(?).
What an attractive set of websites you made!!! ;) Thank you SO much!
To anyone wishing to revamp your site, please look no further than this woman right here!
YES about The Way!!! It’s absolutely one of my new forever favorites. I hum the title song from the soundtrack all the time, it just bubbles up in quiet moments when I don’t even realize it. I wrote a review for it on my blog here awhile back. It is a film that I think can appeal to anyone, but has such depth and meaning if we grasp just a little further! http://www.beata-vita.blogspot.com/search/label/Reviews (did I link it right? You know me and code, we don’t get along…)
Well, golly. Lauren, you’re the best! And, I have to tell you, a reader came to my blog the other day and said she was in shock and awe when I didn’t receive the Sheenazing award for best looking blog ;)
Oh, how I hated having to write essays for my misbehavior. Of course, I promised my childhood self that I would never subject my own children to such horror. Of course, I ate those words as even I grew up to assign essays to correct misbehavior. Unfortunately, I don’t recall that the first essays my kids wrote were as sweet as the one you’ve shared. Much can be learned about a child when pen is put to paper. I realized right off the bat that one of my little darlings needed a tiny lesson in humility.
