Because, face it, sometimes we just want to watch something that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy. So, gather up some girlfriends, or set a date with your honey, and watch one (or maybe more) of these films! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Take Me Home
Love this indie film! A simple story of two people who meet by chance, drive across the country, and change their lives in the process. The main characters, played by Sam and Amber Jaeger, are actually married in real life. Sam wrote, directed and starred in this ultra low-budget film that has won my heart, and hopefully will win yours too!
The Young Victoria
A beautifully filmed story of Queen Victoria before and at the beginning of her marriage. The acting and set design is phenomenal, and the guys may find the politics of the time very interesting, if not the romance! And who can ever get enough of Emily Blunt (Victoria) and Rupert Friend (Prince Albert)?
A thought-provoking and unique indie film about an unlikely friendship between two teachers – one Muslim and one Jewish. I’ve recommended it to many. This movie changed me, and my husband loved it as well.
Sense and Sensibility
Of course, my beloved Jane needs to make the list. And this version (NOT the Hugh Grant version) is, in my humble opinion, the best of all Jane Austen film adaptations created to date. Hattie Morahan shines as Elinor Dashwood. And Sense & Sensibility is my favorite JA novel. So, it’s long, but so so SO worth every second!
I love this classic. A chauffeur’s daughter, a wealthy playboy and his older brother. Audrey Hepburn. Humphrey Bogart. What’s not to love?!
Return to Me
One of my all time favorites, this sweet, heart warming love story is much more than meets the eye at the beginning! Great acting by Minnie Driver and David Duchovny, and some hilarious banter from the older actors in the film. You won’t regret watching this. And bring the tissues!
A mysterious and beautifully touching film from Ireland (yay Ireland!) starring Colin Farrell as Syracuse, a lonely Irish fisherman, and Alicja Bachleda as the mysterious woman he pulls out of the sea – Ondine. Maybe a little racier than the other films on this list, but it is an all-time favorite of mine!
The Decoy Bride
Hilarious. Quirky. I didn’t like it the first time I watched it. But the second time I came around. Media invades a remote Scottish island where a Hollywood actress is attempting to get married, a local girl is hired as a decoy bride to put the paparazzi off the scent. Starring David Tennant (Doctor Who) and the charming Alice Eve.
Okay, so the guys will definitely like this one. And you ladies, well, there might be a few tough scenes. But IT’S WORTH IT!! Russell Crowe plays the role of ex-boxer James Braddock – a day laborer during the Great Depression. He goes back into the ring to support his family, against the wishes of his wife, played by Renee Zellweger. A beautiful example of marriage.
